Frequently Asked Questions

What is hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a therapy which helps you to make changes in your life and solve problems. It is a little like day-dreaming, which works with your unconscious mind - the part which creates your dreams and allows you to imagine.

Frequently Asked Questions

Ericksonian hypnotherapy works with your own experiences, dreams and ambitions to achieve your goals. It uses your own inner resources to change problem behaviour and helps you to be in control of your responses to people and situations.

It uses trance, a natural state of deep relaxation, to help you identify solutions to your problems and make the changes you want to make.

What is a trance?

A trance is a deeply relaxed state. It is a natural state of mind, where you focus your awareness on you and your own thoughts rather than on the people and situations around you.

It's not the same as being asleep - you are aware of what is going on around you.

Everyone experiences trance on a regular basis. For example, have you ever been listening to someone talking for a while and drifted off into your own thoughts, and then suddenly realised you haven't heard what they have been saying for a few moments? That's a trance.

What happens in a session?

You will be asked to complete a medical questionnaire before the session begins.

Then we'll talk about:

Then, when you are ready, the session will progress.

Who can it help?

Hypnotherapy helps a wide range of people with a variety of problems.

You do not need to be a 'certain type' of person for hypnotherapy to help you - all you need is to want to change something in your life.

How long will it take?

Each session lasts about an hour and takes place in a safe, secure environment.

Smoking cessation sessions are two-hours long.

Therapy for weight problems begins with a two-hour session and then progresses with one hour sessions.

How many sessions will I need?

Every client is different, so it depends on you and the problem, but usually only a few sessions are required.

However, the number of sessions you attend is entirely up to you - this is your therapy, time specifically for you and what you want to achieve. You can attend as many sessions as you feel you require.

Are sessions confidential?

Yes. All sessions are conducted on a one-to-one basis and are entirely confidential.
